When
Sapkal was a little girl she was called "Chindi". It means "torn
cloth" (yırtık kumaş). She was an unwanted (istenmeyen)
child. She would become a great woman. But she did not
know that when she was a little girl.
When Sapkal was 12 she
was forced to marry (evlenmeye zorlanmak). Soon she had a baby boy. Then her husband
left her. She had no home. She had to beg (yalvarmak) for food. She
felt hopeless (umutsuz). She wanted to die. But one day she saw some
children on the street. They did not have a home or parents. She knew
they were her reason (sebep) to live. She begged more. She used the money to feed all the children who lived on the streets.
Sapkal has lived all her life helping orphans (kimsesiz çocuklar). She does not
beg now. People know now about her goodness and help her. She is now
called "Mai". It means "The Mother of all Orphans". Mai has cared for more than 1500 children in her life. She has built (o inşa etti) 4 big homes for children and women without homes. Many of her
children are now grown up (yetişkin) and help her.
We are all stronger (daha güçlü) than we think. This is what Mai teaches her children.
